Frequently Asked
Questions
What can I expect in my first session?
In your first session, your therapist will typically ask about your background, reasons for seeking therapy, and any specific goals you have. This is also a chance for you to ask questions and get a feel for the therapist's approach.
How long does therapy usually take?
The duration of therapy varies depending on individual needs and goals. Some people may benefit from a few sessions, while others may engage in longer-term therapy. Your therapist will work with you to determine the best approach.
How often will we meet?
Sessions are usually scheduled weekly, but the frequency can be adjusted based on your needs and preferences. Some clients may meet bi-weekly or more frequently during challenging times.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes, therapy is confidential. Your therapist is bound by ethical and legal standards to keep your information private. There are some exceptions, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
It’s helpful to bring any relevant medical history, a list of medications, and any notes about your goals or concerns. Being prepared can help make the session more productive.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, struggling with emotional or mental health issues, or seeking personal growth, therapy can be a beneficial option. A consultation with a therapist can also help clarify if it’s a good fit.
What types of therapy do you offer?
Therapists may use various approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy, and more. It’s important to discuss your preferences and goals with your therapist.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy may be fully covered by your insurance and will depend on your specific insurance plan (i.e. copay, deductible, etc.). Our sessions are offered at affordable rates and if you are uninsured and need financial assistance, please ask about the CareCredit program as a financing option.
What if I don’t feel comfortable with my therapist?
It’s important to feel safe and comfortable with your therapist. If you don’t feel a connection, it’s perfectly okay to discuss your feelings or consider finding a different therapist.
Can I bring someone with me to my session?
You can discuss this with your therapist. Some people find it helpful to have a trusted friend or family member for support, but therapists generally prefer to work with clients one-on-one for the most effective therapy.
What if I’m nervous about starting therapy?
Feeling nervous is completely normal. Remember that your therapist is there to support you, and you can take things at your own pace. Open communication about your feelings can help ease any anxiety.
How will I know if I’m making progress?
Progress can look different for everyone. Your therapist will regularly check in with you about your goals and feelings. Tracking your mood and thoughts can also help you recognize changes over time.
